Melissa Klein Photography - THE BLOG
Hi! I'm Melissa Klein - owner and general maker of awesomeness at Melissa Klein Photography LLC. I'm located in Blaine, MN - just north of Minneapolis (because I HAVE had people who don't know where Blaine is - it's not that far). :) I do sessions both at my home based studio in Blaine, and on location.

Sit back, grab a drink, and check it out. If you like what you see (other than the needing-to-be-updated profile pic that I took with my iPhone), feel free to leave a comment, and if you have any questions at all or if you'd like to set something up, just let me know. I look forward to talking to you. :)

{Reid} | Elk River MN newborn photographers

I met Reid and his mom when they came in for his newborn session back in March. I just LOVE how squishy he is! Bigger babies don’t always sleep the best, but he did great! We even got some awake pics towards the end, which him laying on the blanket his grandma made for him. So sweet!

Sara – I had a great time meeting you both, and I can’t wait to see what Reid is up to at his next session!

{Abigail} | St Paul MN newborn photography

A little behind on blogging (what’s new?), but I am finally getting some photos up from Abigail’s newborn session. She is seriously one of the prettiest babies I’ve ever seen, and she was such a good sleeper! I’ve had a lot of newborn boys lately (they seem to come in waves for some reason), so it was fun to bust out some girly pink and purple for this one.

Marisol – I had a great time meeting you guys! I hope you enjoy your photos! :)

{Brynn – 8 months} | Maple Grove MN baby photography

Brynn was back in March for her third session – she’s getting to be quite the little model! She’s eight months old now, and she’s a mover! I’m pretty sure we’re going to have an early walker on our hands here – she was all over the place. The funniest part – she didn’t want to touch the plexiglass I had down, so she started walking on all fours. It was hysterical! I’m not sure if I’ve seen a baby do that before. Between that and her trying to make lunch out of the pearls, I could not stop laughing. She is adorable! Here are just a few from her session – Enjoy! Oh, and a disclaimer – the pearls do get washed after each session since they seem to be such a big hit with the little ones, and they are the kind with the knots between each pearl, so there will be no choking on the pearls should they ever fall apart. I’m not sure why I felt like I needed to explain that, but there you go. Saftey first. :)

Just one for now from Leela’s 8 month session that I’m in the process of editing.  More to come soon!  :)

{Busy, busy, busy!} | Blaine MN baby photographer

These last few weeks have been crazy busy. I will be getting full blog posts up soon, but in the meantime, I thought I’d post some from the last week or so. More to come! :)

Life Songs
“The Sound of Silence”
by Simon and Garfunkel

Welcome to a little blog post series that we like to call Life Songs. I am thrilled to be a part of this life stories project with eleven other talented photographers! In this series, we will be documenting our lives with a different theme song each month. The images in the posts will be taken from a less traditional approach, showcasing “real life” in our own ways. This month’s inspiration is ” The Sound of Silence” by Simon and Garfunkel. It might be worth finding it and having a listen as you browse our blog circle. See the link to the next photographer in the circle at the end of this post.

I don’t know what it is about this song, but I love it. While listening to the lyrics and trying to come up with some photos to match the theme, the one thing that kept coming to mind is my sleeping kids. I know, I know… more photos of my kids in their jammies. I swear they wear regular clothes, too. Mainly when we go out in public. The only time I hear any sounds of silence in my house is when the kids are both sound asleep. Ahhh…such a peaceful time. My crazy, energetic, fun-loving kids turn in to sweet slumbering angels and I get a little bit of quiet mommy time. My oldest is starting to not want to nap anymore. A little sad for me, mainly because my first “baby” is growing up, but also because I REEEEEEAAAAALLLY enjoy that quiet time. Now we just have some quiet time together while his little sister takes a nap, and I love that (almost) just as much. I can still get my “me” time when they go to bed (the do eventually go to sleep at night), but I also know that they won’t want to snuggle quietly for too many more years. So, I’m taking it while I can get it. These are just some personal photos that remind me of that quiet time. Their pajamas, their blankies they sleep with (at least 5 each), their stuffed animals, their bed sheets…I’m thinking it’s the details in photos like this that will be great memories years down the road. :)

Please be sure to check out Louise Glendon Photos. Louise’s take on this months theme can be seen here. Each photographer from our group will be linking to the next photographer’s take on it – lots of great posts you won’t want to miss!

{ART!} | Blaine MN lifestyle photography

As the years have gone by and I’ve been taking more of my family photos with my phone or some other digital camera, I’m finding that my photos are not being printed out like they used to. I’m very behind. Like, 2 years behind. I used to print out all of my photos, write on the back the date and who was in them, and put them in order in an album. I’m 2 YEARS behind! But I’m still determined that it will get done because I have albums full of photos from when I was a baby up until my second kid turned a year old (life got a little crazy with 2 toddlers so I blame it on that, too). Last night I had this fantastic idea that I was going to take some of my favorite photos from over the year and make a giant collage. I was stoked! They’re mostly just snaps from the past year, a lot of them just shot with my camera phone, but I still love them. And now they will all be on a 30×40 canvas in my living room. I CAN’T WAIT for this to come in!  I think I’m going to do one every year (maybe not all 30×40, though) so I can always look back and remember what was going on that year (and wonder why I have photos of goats and Chino Moreno in with our family collage – LOL!). Anyways, just thought I’d share! If you’re bad at printing out photos like I am (which is one reason that I push people towards prints rather than digital – get those photos up on your walls!) this is another option out there. And if you don’t want to do the work, I’m sure I can be commissioned to get a collage put together for you if you have your photos on a disc. :)

{Abigail} | St Paul MN newborn photographer

Just one from Abigail’s session for now. There are SO many cute ones from her session it’s going to be hard narrowing them down, but I’m sure you’ll be seeing a lot more of her soon.

{Eero – 1 year} | St Paul MN baby photographer

Eero…I just love this little guy. I’ve known his mom for a long time, but hadn’t seen E since he was a newborn. And let me tell you, this kid can NOT take a bad picture! Ever single photo was just the cutest thing ever. He should be a model. Seriously. Better get on that, mama…

{Claire – 1 year} | Lino Lakes MN baby & children’s photographer

Warning: large over-sharing of pictures ahead. :) Claire just finished up her 1 year session. She’s one of my first year baby planners, so I’m sure you’ve seen lots of her over this past year, but incase you missed any, see the recap below. She is SUCH a happy baby. Even in her newborn photos I was getting some grins. I love her crazy hair (although it has tamed down a ton) and her big, happy smiles. It’s been so much fun to watch her grow up over this past year!

A collage of her newborn, 3 month, 6 month, and 9 month photos:

And from her one year session:
