Minneapolis, MN MATERNITY, newborn, & FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER

NEWBORN

As a highly sought after Minneapolis newborn photographer, I aim to document the love between you, your family and your newborn baby in a beautiful and natural way.  I want you to hold a photo of your baby and instantly remember what you felt in that moment – the new love for another, that soft newborn skin, the wispy hair and all the other details that change in the blink of an eye.

Newborn sessions are usually scheduled between one and two weeks of age.  However, because of my natural, family-centered approach to newborn photography, babies older than two weeks are more than welcome.  Sessions are typically photographed at my Lino Lakes studio, where you can sit back and relax as I capture all the details of your new baby.   A hair and makeup artist can be added to any newborn session, and use of the studio wardrobe is complimentary for those who would like family, parent and/or sibling photos with their new baby.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

When is the best time to book a newborn session?

The best time to book your newborn session is before baby arrives to ensure I can get you on my schedule.  Once baby is born, I typically try to photograph them around 1-2 weeks of age.  This, however, is not set in stone, and depends a bit on how baby and mom are doing (if baby is jaundiced, I’ll usually push it out to 2-3 weeks of age).

What it your style of newborn photography?

My newborn photography is “baby-led”, meaning I’ll follow baby’s lead and pose them in a way that is comfortable and natural to them. Sessions include a mix of candid family photos and naturally posed newborn photos.  I tend to keep babies swaddled and warm, and let them relax into their naturally curled positions.  I don’t use much for props or accessories, as I find these can distract from the pureness and simplicity of the photos.

How long does a newborn session last?

The length of a newborn session depends on a lot of things, but you should plan on around 3 hours for your session.  Most go quicker than that, but we may need to take breaks to sooth baby, feed baby, and rock baby to sleep as needed.  Some need a little more time in those areas than others.

Can family members be included in my newborn photos?

Absolutely!  All of my sessions are very family centered, and your spouse/partner and any children you have are always welcome to be included in your newborn session.

What should we wear for our newborn session?

I have a full studio wardrobe with coordinating pieces for the entire family.  This is a complimentary service I offer my clients to save them from the stress of shopping and trying to figure out what looks good together.  For newborns, I will typically have them in a plain white onesie or swaddled with just a diaper cover.  I have a large variety of dresses for moms, dresses and tops for older siblings, and neutral tops for dads.  If you want to wear your own clothing, that’s totally fine, too!  I suggest wearing light or neutral colors (creams, tans, whites, light grey, and light blue all work beautifully).

Do you recommend professional hair and makeup for newborn sessions?

Having professional hair and make-up done before your session is a great way to treat yourself so that you’ll look and feel your best for your session.  I work with some amazing stylists who are fantastic at enhancing your natural beauty. A little soft eye makeup, loose waves and false lashes go a long way, and are a great way to be pampered before your newborn session.

What should I bring for my newborn session?

There really isn’t anything you need to bring other than diapers and something to feed baby (boob or bottle).  If you have a pacifier, I usually suggest bringing that in case it’s needed, but I provide everything else (swaddles, blankets, wardrobe for the entire family…even snacks and drinks!).  I also keep coloring books and some toys at the studio to keep older siblings busy.
