I’ve been loyal to Nikon for the last 12+ years, but a lot of photographers I know shoot with Canon cameras and absolutely love them. I photograph with a Nikon D850 DSLR and a Nikon Z7ii Mirrorless camera, but something about the grass always being greener on the other side had me yearning to try out...
This is so awesome! i love that you took the time to do this and share the results with us. I’ve always been a Canon girl but i love knowing that I could probably get the same results if i grabbed a Nikon!
What a great idea! I am a sony shooter but have been tempted by the R6!!
Wow. So informative. Thanks for posting!
This is soooooo helpful!
So neat to see this comparison! i’ve been eyeing that Canon r6! Beautiful photos!
Love this! the hair on the baby is so adorable!
Melissa! I love this! I’m in the same boat with the Nikon vs. canon thing – 12+ years with Nikon and made the switch earlier this year. I find the grain is horrible though with the canon. I don’t shoot in studio so I’ll be switching back to Nikon next year for sure. beautiful images as always!
This is such a neat idea! Love how you can see the differences!

Great shoot. personally I find find the Nikon to be way nicer from a skin tone perspective, even after editing the canon file. Really wish canon would bring back some of the color philosophy from their dslr days.
Thank you! I have heard that from quite a few people. I’m torn between the skin tones – I love both of them, but the Canon just seems so much more consistent with the whites, and I get less of a gradient on my white walls. I know I’m probably being WAY too picky, but in the end the Canon files were a lot easier for me to edit, which will save me time in the long run.
I’m glad I stumbled upon this. I have a Canon r6 and was wondering if an upgrade to the r5 would be worth it, but I feel my images are very similar to the r5 images you posted here. Im still not as thrilled as I was with my 5dmiii, but the mirror less has lots of advantages
I felt the same way going from my Nikon D850 (DSLR) to the Nikon z7ii mirrorless. The colors with the DSLR are just SO much better – at least with the Nikon. Creamier skin tones, more vibrant colors…but the ease of use and constant focus with the mirrorless makes it worth the trade off to me.
