One year floral cake smash

I was so excited when Katerina contacted me about one year photos for her daughter Sophia.  She mentioned wanting to do a one year cake smash with a beautiful floral cake from Thisty Whale Bakery in Minneapolis, and I had heard they make some gorgeous (and delicious!) cakes. I don’t photograph a ton of cake smash sessions, but I think they’re always a fun way to end a one year session.

Sophia was a little shy at first, but warmed pretty quick.  She was absolutely adorable in the dress mom brought, and she also borrowed a dress from my studio wardrobe collection for some Heirloom photos (you may have seen one of her framed print up at the studio!).

After her one year, heirloom and family photos, we moved on to the one year floral cake smash.  The cake was absolutely beautiful – I’ve never seen anything quite like it, with edible florals built into the cake.  It was perfect!  Sophia loved the cake and ate it very daintily.  She was all smiles when it came to the cake, which always makes for some great photos.
