I was first contacted by this fantastic family when they were looking for a Lakeville family photographer eight years ago, and I’ve been photographing them every year since. I absolutely love it when families come back year after year, and I love getting to know my clients so well after all these years.
These sessions have always been a little different from my usual. I remember the first conversation I had with them, asking me to come out and spend a day photographing them doing everyday things. It wasn’t something I had done before, as I was/am mainly a studio photographer (as opposed to an in-home photographer), but it sounded like fun and I was up for something different. Every year I’ve been going out to their home and spending a few hours playing, observing, and photographing their family. I think it’s so fantastic that they have these memories of what Jorrie was into every year…what she likes to play with, what she’s interested in. Every year they end up with many, many 8×10 prints, as well as anywhere from four to eight 16×20 prints mounted on styrene, which they change out on ledges throughout their home. I LOVE going over there and seeing the photos from past sessions proudly displayed on their walls. It’s why I do what I do. Photos belong on walls and in albums to be enjoyed – not just tucked away on a computer or posted online. Digital files are great to have, but I really want my clients to have something tangible to hold, feel, and look at, which is why even my digital files come with the matching prints.
It’s been so fun to watch Jorrie grow up over the years, and I am excited to see them again soon for their annual session. In the meantime…ready for a photo overload? Enjoy a peek into this family’s day.
