Family photos at Burwell House in Minnetonka

My 2024 goal – catch up on blogging!  I’m pretty sure that was the same goal I had for 2023, but I still have a lot of sessions I want to share.  Today I’m sharing a family that has been with me every year since almost the start of my business.  They originally contacted me when their oldest was a newborn.  Back then (over 12 years ago, now!) we started with sessions in a basement studio I had at my parents house.  Crazy how things change, but I love that they’ve stuck with me through all the changes over the years.

We decided to have their family photos at Burwell House in Minnetonka the year this session was photographed.  We try to find a different location every year, and I had photographed a session here a few weeks early and thought it was a fantastic location for photographing sessions.  It’s a historic house with beautiful landscaping surrounding it.  It is typically pretty busy with photographers (and I try to avoid places that are overly crowded/busy for family sessions), but we lucked out and went early enough that there weren’t too many people around.

The Burwell House has meticulously landscaped lawns and gardens, as well as gorgeous stone ledges that are perfect sitting height for photos.  There’s a cute bridge, as well as the house itself (which was under restoration at the time we were there).  It’s a perfect spot for photos, and I’m honestly shocked that they don’t require a permit to photograph there like a lot of unique places do.

This family always comes dressed to perfection, and I was so excited to see the beautiful dresses mom had chosen for herself and the girls – they beautifully complimented the scenery at Burwell House.  In fact, I had almost bought the dress mom was wearing for my studio wardrobe collection, so I was excited when I saw her wearing it, and knew it would be a good choice.

I absolutely love seeing this family every year.  Their love and playfulness has me leaving with a full heart and a smile on my face every time I photograph them.  Here are some favorites from our family photos at Burwell House in Minnetonka:
