I was contacted by Val a while back when she was looking for a Woodbury MN family photographer. The session was to include her and her husband and their two daughters and their families. We first met for a pre-session consultation so I could learn a little bit more about who was going to be there for the session. At that time, we also went over session ideas, clothing ideas, and talked about what they plan to do with their images after the session.
They came to my St. Paul portrait studio in mid December (yes, late on blogging as always), and we had a fantastic session! The kids were adorable (and very well behaved). We were able to get some posed images as well as some that were more candid and fun. Being so cold outside, it made me really appreciate having a large studio to accommodate extended family sessions such as this.
A few weeks after their session (and after the craziness of the holidays), I invited them all back to my studio for their viewing and ordering appointment. We had some snacks, looked through printed proofs, and made a morning out of it. Everyone had input on their favorites. In the end, we ended up with a wall collection with 7 framed prints, some unframed wall prints and some smaller desk prints. For the wall display, there was a framed 30×40 print, surrounded by 6 smaller framed 8×12 and 8×8 prints. We started with a canvas design, seen below, but ended up going with framed prints instead. Val sent me a photo once it was up, and it looks fantastic!
THIS is what I love – working with a family from start to finish. From the initial idea of setting up a session with the end goal of a nice family photo, to delivery of the final product. I love the thought process, the design process, and seeing it through to fruition. Now this family has a gorgeous wall display that they will be able to look at and enjoy on a daily basis for several years to come.
